Stroud's may be the city's most famous chicken shack, but we know of a few neighborhood joints that do a damn good job giving customers the bird as well. Specifically, we're thinking of the 15-year-old K.T. Fryers, which operates out of a space in a Lenexa shopping strip. Because the bird is pan-fried to order, patrons might get carried away buttering and devouring the fluffy, sugar-glazed cinnamon rolls that arrive before the meal -- a sticky, sweet roll goes so well with a green salad smothered in parmesan-peppercorn ranch or a cup of chicken soup made with fat doughy noodles. K.T.'s also offers other Midwestern dinner favorites, such as pan-fried pork chops, catfish, barbecued chicken, pork tenderloins, and three kinds of cheeseburgers. There's not much in the way of style in K.T.'s green-painted dining room, but the only good taste that matters here is in the food.
