Best New Gay Bar

The Starlet Lounge at Café Trio

"But it's not a gay bar," insisted one of Café Trio's employees when she overheard someone using that term to describe the restaurant's tastefully illuminated bar, the Starlet Lounge. "It's just a friendly gathering place with a predominantly gay clientele." Huh? One habitué of the lounge, who adores Friday- and Saturday-night pianist Alice Jenkins, puts it more succinctly: "The Starlet Lounge evokes a 1950s cocktail saloon, back when bars didn't have labels but customers always had good manners and interesting personalities and didn't stand around and pose like a bunch of has-been models." The Starlet Lounge is as different from, say, the DB Warehouse as Rock Hudson is from Wade Neff. "Everyone's friendly in there," says another fan of the place. "I call it the Cheers for queers."
