It's always amusing to see how far
Star editors will go whenever they have to bleep out a naughty word. So after Dick Cheney infamously said "Go fuck yourself" to Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy on June 22, newspapers around the country were thrown into a tizzy as they decided how to convey the significance of his quote to their readers. Naturally, the shift key got a good workout, and over at the
Star it was no exception; editors there boiled down the quote to "@%*$!" Still, we must admit that we were a little disappointed in the paper's use of such prosaic symbols. Come on, everyone uses @ every day in e-mail addresses. How about incorporating more unconventional symbols, such as the tilde? Or even just changing the font of "go fuck yourself" into Zapf dingbats or Wingdings? Now
that would be
awesome!
