Panties can be such a pain in the ass. They pinch, they creep up, they roll, they dig in, causing ugly panty lines. (And those lacy, "sexy" ones are the worst offenders.) Luckily for us, Kansas City designer Susan Wiegand has spent a lot of time thinking about conventional panties and what's wrong with them -- and she'll gladly give an impromptu dissertation on the matter anytime. After we heard her Panty Manifesto, we made sure we bought a pair of her "scientific panties." At $25 each, they're not cheap. But they are well worth it -- we never want to take them off. Wiegand spends hours perusing fabric warehouses for the right material, which must be soft yet stretchy enough to stay on and conform to the body. (Wiegand doesn't use elastic, the main culprit in making other panties irritating.) The result is panties you can barely feel, completely comfortable and flattering to the butt and wearable under just about anything. And they look good. Make an appointment to stop by Wiegand's studio, and she'll design a pair to fit you perfectly.
