Lots of people have style, but it takes real dedication and years of body modification to look like some of Balanca's patrons. On any given night, there might be dreadlocks that have taken decades to grow and tattoos that have cost thousands of dollars. Or you might see fetishes that took years of therapy to fully emerge. Whatever the kink — and no matter how kinkless one might feel by comparison — Balanca's is a place where everyone feels welcome. "I don't tolerate attitudes or problems, and I'd nip it in a split second if one were to arise," says Lori Burroughs, the owner, who can usually be found behind the bar. She credits her staff for making her spot a friendly place where everyone can party, be they goths, aging ravers, leather-wearing metalheads or just the normal-looking folks who come to enjoy the wildlife.
