The library on the second floor of this 19th-century, former elementary school is no ordinary saloon. Rather, it's a miniature gentleman's club (open to men and women, but you get the idea) with dark polished woodwork and comfortable seating. There's a sensational happy-hour menu from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (with a grilled steakburger that's way more elegant and delicious than you'd expect for $5), and patrons are free to sit in the quiet, cozy room during the lunch and dinner hours, too. If the main dining rooms have a proper, ladies-who-lunch sensibility, the library is seriously laid-back. If it were legal to smoke a fine Havana cigar in Kansas City (with a glass of sherry, perhaps), this would be the place to do it.
