With 24 jets shooting, spraying and misting water in ever-changing patterns, the children's fountain at Zona Rosa is pretty enough to be considered modern art, but most kids know better. During the summer, children frolic in what has become the city's most unexpected watery playground, the centerpiece of a small, grassy park that's perfect for watchful parents because it's lined by benches and shaded by tall trees. On hot days, kids actually show up in swimsuits; others just jump in with street clothes on. On weekends, ultra-savvy parents lounge at the canopied outdoor bar at nearby Bravo, keeping one eye on their kids and another on funky bands such as the KC All Stars, who jam onstage behind the fountain.
