Even if this was the "Best of the U.S.A." issue, the Grand Emporium would still rank among the top contenders; it's been named the premier blues club in the country on several occasions. The quality remains the same from night to night, but the styles change because club owner Roger Naber books everything from electric-guitar graduates of the Stevie Ray Vaughan school to Delta-flavored acoustic traditionalists to harmonica maestros. The Emporium has success with other genres as well, hosting a reggae showcase on Wednesday nights and rock acts, most of which are local, on Mondays, but it's the blues that earned the club its sterling reputation and devoted regulars.
