Nothing has upped Kansas City's hip quotient quite as much as First Fridays, the monthly event that funnels thousands of people into the city's gallery district downtown. And it's not just local art that visitors can appreciate. After all, thousands of men and women roam the Crossroads, going from art opening to art opening. Men and women who look good. And they look even better when standing in front of an 8-foot-tall painting, holding a plastic cup of white wine. Oh, but wait: That cup looks almost empty. Time to make a gingerly stroll to the wine table. Some eye contact. A hello. A casual suggestion to check out such-and-such gallery because so-and-so said this-and-that. A leisurely stroll to said gallery. Hello again. Some more dialogue perhaps? Yes, that sounds nice. A smile, a laugh, an exchange of information. And the beginnings of the best break-up the world has ever seen.
