Plenty of venues offer premium headbanging on a nearly nightly basis, chief among them Niener's (815 N. Noland Road), but America's Pub, which usually blasts 93.3 fare from Nelly, Jay Z, and Britney Spears, opens its doors on an annual basis to some of the city's finest headbanging acts. Groups such as Thrust and Canvas scorch all pop residue from the venue's walls, playing with added intensity because of the competition format. This year, the event fell on August 16, the same evening as OZZfest, but devoted fans ditched Sandstone early to cheer on their favorite local metal acts at this unlikely venue.
