Finding off-road trails close to home has always been difficult for metro mountain bikers -- or it was, until word spread that the crew riding the trails on Tuesday nights at Minor Park had conducted its own city planning session, cutting and cleaning 20 miles of single track routes into surrounding hills, creeks, overpasses and across railroad tracks. Dubbed Taco Tuesdays, the event started a few years ago when a couple of suds-soaked bikers stumbled out of the nearby Pat Murphy's Bar & Grill and decided to clamp lamps to their helmets and go exploring. Since then, the bar has also become the finish line, a place for cold brews and cheap tacos. More than 50 riders of all ability levels show up at the bar (13023 Holmes) between 5 and 6 p.m., then leave at staggered times. And Earthriders, a Kansas City Bike Advocacy group, has given its services to keep the event going, scheduling trail cleanups to ensure that the routes stay challenging without getting too wild.
