When KRBZ 96.5 (the Buzz) invited Mac Lethal into its studio three years ago to do an indie-alternative hip-hop show with co-host Slimfast, the station got a funny, fast-talking spokesman from the cool kids' side of the hip-hop scene. Called The Jump Off, the show had lots of buddy-buddy bullshitting and bravura rap jams. Following Slimfast's departure in late 2006, the show became Lethal's child to continue rearing as he pleased. And, oh, he has reared it well. Now called Black Clover Radio (after the label that Mac founded with now ex-partner Joe Good, also in late '06), the show, which airs from 9 to 10 p.m., is the only place on the local dial for a steady stream of the deepest, choicest underground cuts. "It's like a Top 40 show with cult music as the smash hits," Mac says. That's what makes it so great.
