Best Reason to Rescind the Curfew on Kids at Crown Center

The Attack on Hearne Christopher Jr.

Kansas City isn't exactly a teen-friendly town; this past year, the under-eighteen set has been banned from various midtown and Plaza locations that are trying to attract nonexistent tourists. However, we'd like to start a petition drive for Crown Center to rescind its teen curfew, if only because of one funny incident when Kansas City Star gossipmeister Hearne Christopher Jr. was accosted by a group of rowdy kids. He recounted this harrowing adventure in his March 21 column: When he was walking past a pair of buses waiting to transport a group of kids back to their neighborhoods, he was "pelted in the back with a plastic bottle." He continued: "A backward glance garnered me some choice curses. And when I walked away, a yellow smiley-face ball whistled just over my head." The mental image of Christopher, clad in that pink shirt he wears in his column photo, having a yellow smiley-face ball hurled at him was priceless.
