The secret's out about Kansas City's 39th Street neighborhood, where restaurants challenge those in Westport without the annoying bar crowd. Three big reasons for 39th Street's success are three neighboring shops -- Blaze, Revue and Boomerang -- that have given the area an independent retail anchor. Blaze offers new and vintage clothing for men, plus kitschy home accessories such as Bruce Lee clocks and Jesus action figures; Revue pretty much does the same for women; and Boomerang continues to be Kansas City's most affordable retro shop, with a constantly changing used-furniture selection. Each store would stand out on its own regardless of location, but as a trifecta, they've turned 39th Street into a shopping destination.
