The people behind the Amy Thompson Run are our friends, our neighbors and an integral part of Kansas City's very friendly running community. Amy survived a bullet to the head from the gun of an unmemorable punk in 1986, hanging on through a six-week coma before dying three years later. This race heightens our awareness of how quickly lives can change because of senseless acts of violence and of the need to fund brain-injury research. But even more, it serves as a reminder that good people who genuinely care about each other live in this town.
