A group of people gathered at tables for drinks and socializing on the deck atop John's Food & Drink one night last summer. It was about 6 p.m., and the sun was just beginning to set on this typically hot day. The men and women were neatly dressed, having just ended their workday at Enterprise Rental Car. "We come here about once a month," one of them said, confirming what a lot of folks in Kansas City have discovered. After a hard work week, heading to John's third-story deck is the perfect pick-me-up. "It's a great view, it's a good atmosphere, and it's pretty relaxed," says John's manager Melissa Fry. The deck has been John's drawing card for the past seven years. When you add live music to the mix six nights a week, few outdoor attractions for the drinking crowd can match John's open-air vibe. Weather permitting, the deck is open from April through November.
