Global warming is on, and it's only getting hotter. That's why "Sister Smoke," by Lawrence's the Pomonas, is a perfect anthem for our times. Listening to this song is like dancing, shirtless and sweaty with smoke-filled lungs and a can of Schlitz in hand, to a stereo blasting Cornershop and the Stone Roses at a wild house party in the 785. But one needn't leave KCMO, much less know anyone in Lawrence, to feel what it's like. This song and others off the Pomonas' sophomore full-length, Good Cop, Good Cop, make us wanna cry over the fact that the band is splitting up, with its most productive members taking their genius to Seattle. Of all places! At least we heard "Sister" first. No big city can take that away.
