In their efforts to organize activities for kids, cities often lose sight of the fact that adults need things to do, too. Enter Mayor's Night Kicks, a World Cup-type soccer tournament that takes place under the lights at the Kansas City Wizards' practice facility at Swope Park. The six-week tourney attracts players with a high level of skill. A former Wizards backup goalkeeper, Boris Pardo, played on one of the Latin clubs during the 2010 competition. Teams have tended to form along ethnic lines (Hispanic, African), although organizers saw more blended entries in the most recent tournament.
