All the high-def flat screens in Kansas City don't add up to a good sports bar. The name of a pro athlete on the door isn't enough. Neither are Big 12 Bud Light neon signs or live radio broadcasts. Minsky's in the City Market has none of these things. What it lacks in sleek viewing technology and appetizers named after local sports heroes, it makes up for with a huge beer selection, some of the best pizza in Kansas City and 22 TVs, including three 10-foot projection screens. Space gets a little tight around Big 12 tournament games and before City Market concerts, but the friendly crowd is willing to make room for Jayhawks and Tigers, NASCAR fans and golf enthusiasts, Chiefs fans and lovers of the Chicago Bears. Bartenders take channel requests, and the sizable double-level space accommodates families, parties or the single fan who wants to post up, drink beer and zone out to ESPN all day in relative obscurity.
