Best Sports Bar

The Other Place American Sports Grill & Pizzeria

The Other Place isn't just for rock-chalk-talkin' Jayhawks, Willie the Wildcat-lovin' K-Staters or Golden Girl-oglin' Antlers. This pizza and pasta joint plays nice with sports fans of all stripes, especially Iowa expatriates. Owner and former Chiefs draft pick Troy Stedman grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where the chain grew from a mere pizza-delivering bar to a sports megaplex. So Cyclones, Hawkeyes and Panthers get priority on the pair of big screens when the Jayhawks aren't playing. Stedman opened the first Kansas Other Place in Overland Park in 1997. The Olathe location followed in March 2003. With subscriptions to nearly every major sports package -- NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass, MLB Extra Innings, ESPN Full Court and ESPN Gameplan -- the Other Place makes cheering for the home team easy, even if home is hundreds of miles away. There is one exception: pro hockey. Sorry, puck pushers, this isn't a house for hockey fans. But if you need something cold, the Other Place's frosted 25-ounce mugs could be the coldest in the metro. And Sundays, they're only $3. That's nearly cheap enough to drown the sorrows of another soul-crushing Royals season.
