The Yacht Club may have a highfalutin name, but it's for the Jayhawks-lovin' Everyman. Thanks to a 2003 renovation, the sports bar does make you feel a bit like you're on a boat. But the all-wood interior is decorated mostly with non-nautical sports memorabilia, including a giant old KU scoreboard. There's nary a seat in the house without a view of a TV screen — maybe even a flat one. On a recent visit, the multiple screens in our sight were divided between boxing and baseball. There are also sports-themed arcade games for the enthusiast who wants some virtual action along with fried food and burgers. The Yacht Club's signature drink is the beer tower — a 3-foot-tall cylinder that holds something like 3 liters of brewski and comes equipped with its own tap. Practically a beer bong, the tower is a perfect novelty in a college town and an enticement for the Mass Street masses to explore beyond the beaten path. Prices usually start at $11, but on Wednesdays, towers of Bud cost as little as $5.
