Sports and entertainment are relentlessly packaged, but Kansas City Power, our local Australian Rules Football club, is a wonderful contrast to today's hyper-media packaging. The 44-member Power plays a sport that is unlikely to receive attention in the United States and is impossible to view on even the most souped-up cable systems. They play for enjoyment of the sport, the camaraderie with their fellow players, and the opportunity to give one another ridiculous nicknames (such as Ben "Crooked Foot" Redwing). "We all have a sort of bond with each other, and the nicknames help tie it all together," Redwing says. You can watch the fun or join it; the club is looking for new team members and social-club members, which we assume involves drunken head-butting.
