There are two swing sets in Roanoke Park. One is plainly visible. It's located just off the brick road that winds through the middle of the park. The other is hidden and, therefore, superior. To get to this swing set, take Wyoming north from 39th Street; when the road forks, go downhill to the right. Keep looking west. You will notice that, as you descend the hill, there is a tree-covered incline to your left. Climb this hill. Go up toward the brush, passing a couple of crab-apple trees on the way. In a clearing, you will find a red swing set parked sneakily behind a big tree with overhanging branches. Its chains are charmingly rusted, so they creak a little song for all swingers. Down the hill, neighborhood folks walk their dogs while cars follow the idyllic, park-lined road, but nobody appears to see the swing set or the people using it. This locale can't be beat for a secluded afternoon retreat with a certain someone. No more than one certain someone, though -- there are only two swings.
