Here's a dissertation topic: What is the relationship between a mendacious presidential administration and the flowering across this beleaguered country of rich, nourishing art? Unicorn Theatre Producing Artistic Director (and gifted play director herself) Cynthia Levin dubbed the theater's 30th season one of "struggle and strength," and in that spirit she offered stirring, relevant, important productions perfect for these dark times. Sometimes they gave us hope; sometimes we just had to settle for painful truth. Ominum Gatherum baldly aired the issues of the day. The Exonerated demonstrated gross injustice and how it might sometimes be righted. Topdog/Underdog dug so deep into race and class that it's a hands-down golden guarantee no Bush will ever see it. And Bug! --we're still trying to shake that one off. Here's hoping that Levin's still pissed off in 2006.
