Andy Morton has lived the rock dream (with beloved Lawrence band Danger Bob, reuniting this month), and he has lived the trivia dream (as one-third of a team that got to the quarterfinals of the World Series of Pop Culture). The VH1 series of the same name has gone away, but Morton's brain is still with us, and judging by a typical night of Smackdown Trivia, it's only getting bigger. For almost a decade, Morton (also the host of the weekly 1 on 1 Trivia on Lawrence's Channel 6) has helmed the Bottleneck's Sunday-night test, which starts at 8 and challenges not just mental acuity but also stamina. By 11 p.m., you might not have the energy to kick yourself for missing that last question. And why beat yourself up? It was hard, and the room was packed with freaks — friendly Midwesterners, every one of them, but total who-are-you-people freaks — who have forgotten more than you'll ever know. You won't win but you'll learn a lot, and your $5 entry is the cheapest tuition in this college town.
