There's a reason why Channel 5's blond, blue-eyed, dimpled morning meteorologist, Gary Amble, looks so good in the hours before dawn: He's damned near perfect before he even gets out of bed at 3:15 a.m. "I've got it down to almost like a fireman's drill," says Amble, an 11-year KCTV Channel 5 veteran. "I shower and shave the night before and put mousse in my hair so that it hardens like a rock, then I lay out all my clothes and even tie my tie so I can jump out of bed, brush my teeth, dress and be at the station by 3:45 a.m." Amble's perpetually cheery presence is a definite plus on cold, dreary mornings, thanks in part to his clean-cut persona. Even when Amble is forecasting tornados, his demeanor is calm and reassuring. The Iowa native never planned to become a TV weather guy; he first majored in pharmacy at the University of Kansas before switching to meteorology. Those two years of pharmacy classes come in handy at unexpected moments: "When our reporters need help pronouncing a chemical or a pharmaceutical, I always know how."
