We're not embarrassed to admit we like a good girl-fight, such as the one on January 10 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia. The women's basketball game between KU and MU was close -- KU won 55-52. It was hard to tell who started what, though MU coach Cindy Stein reportedly acknowledged that one of her gals flipped off a KU player after the game (which might have been in response to a KU player flashing her own Jayhawk). From there, various players from both teams exchanged smack talk, which escalated into shoving. Then a couple of women took swings at each other. Teammates tried to settle them down, and there was a lull in the action, but then the initiators got back to it. Ultimately, one lady Jayhawk approached a she-Tiger from behind, throttled her and slammed her to the ground. Before the week was out, the Big 12 had suspended various players on both teams for a game or two. We're not saying we
endorse such unsportswomanlike conduct, but you know that the women have arrived when girl jocks can behave just as badly as the testosterone-fueled type.
