Perhaps the most musically gifted local band never to release an album, To Conquer swirled former members of the Hillary Step, Haloshifter, Grovel, Thestringandreturn and Everest into a storm cloud whose onstage torrents witnesses will never forget. Riveting and epic, To Conquer's cacophonous compositions churned like hurricane winds, complete with calm stretches in the songs' centers. What made the group's breakup even more frustrating was the indisputable fact that To Conquer was just getting better. The best example, "The Conan Song," cascades and crashes with tidal-wave force. We hope To Conquer will play a reunion gig at a future local music showcase, as long-absent Giant's Chair did this year at Spit Fest; if so, have your recording equipment ready.
