Best Use of Prison Labor

East Hill Singers

The brainchild of former choir director Elvera Voth, the East Hill Singers program at Lansing State Correctional Facility in Lansing, Kan., has teams of community volunteers work with inmates to use their voices as creative outlets. During the performances of classical and Broadway pieces, the inmates share stories about life behind bars. The combination provides a show that is simultaneously tragic and uplifting. --JR
