Best Yoga Studio
Yoga Gallery
We've left some yoga studios around town feeling we didn't get our $15 worth. (At one midtown studio, a twentysomething instructor wore a headset with a microphone and loudly chirped crackling instructions that grated on our nerves: "Look toward the skyyyyy, as if your whole body would float into a cloouuuud.") But when we finished a steamy hot-yoga class (a series of poses done in a saunalike room) at the Yoga Gallery, we actually did feel light and airy. We probably owed our newfound serenity to the experienced instructors, whose voices nearly put us into a trance. Or it could have been the candles and incense burning in the beautiful wood-floored studio, or the soothing finale of our session, which involved new-age music, an herbal eye pillow and the shavasana (the "dead man's pose"). We left wishing we could afford to go every day.
