Zumba is the name for an aerobics class that combines many styles of dance moves, including modern, Latin, West African and hip-hop. Though no actual dance experience is required, some local studios offer a Very Serious Zumba Experience. Their members wear official Zumba gear and glare at newcomers who miss a step. And the music — oh, the music. In contrast, Jeanee Duval's classes, held at 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Scott Fitness, feel like a party. Duval is someone you'd actually want to hit a club with; her routines include moves that aren't too embarrassing to break out on a real dance floor. Her playlist is deep and packed with up-to-date jams by the likes of M.I.A., Black Eyed Peas, Santogold, Pitbull and Beyoncé, plus remixed classics and world beats (thanks in part to her husband, DJ Shaun Duval). An hour goes by in a snap — something you definitely can't say after 60 minutes on the treadmill.
