Better Know an Artist

The formerly migratory MudDauber Studio — now more or less permanently established at 7438 Jarboe in an outbuilding, a two-car garage and the back of a house — holds an Open Studio event today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proprietor and mixed-media artist Michael Schonhoff joins a coalition of Kansas City artists for this two-day meet-and-greet. "It's an opportunity for the public to come into an artist's space and learn how they work and meet and interact with the artists in a really direct way. And this is a really nice, basic way for the artist to get to know the community," Schonhoff says. In addition to his mixed-media-on-paper works, visitors can check out his progress on an ongoing conceptual piece. "I'm about to close an exhibit at Community Christian Church on the Plaza," he says. "I'm using seed bags to solicit people's thoughts. I'm going to use these seed bags to hold people's own objectification of their thoughts. They are asked to donate an item or an object or write down their thoughts on a piece of paper. They'll be planted at various sites. People can kind of host a site in their yard if they want. It's kind of a cross between a time capsule and a wishing well." For more information, call 816-914-5394.
