Bid Scope

In the five years since its inaugural show, UrbanSuburban — the Epsten Gallery's annual exhibition and fundraising event, sponsored by the Kansas City Jewish Museum — has become a reliable barometer of which KC artists' works you should be buying. Wonderful works, but better still, there are deals and steals to be had. More than 80 artists plan to show in the 2009 installment (including Deanna Dikeman, Nate Fors, Peregrine Honig, Jesse Small and recent Pitch MasterMind Anne Pearce), and the silent bidding on works by both established talent and emerging favorites draws loads of local collectors — both established and emerging. Preview the goods from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the space, located on the first floor of Village Shalom (5500 West 123rd Street in Overland Park, 913-266-8413). The auction is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 17, and tickets start at $35.
Sun., Aug. 30, 2-4 p.m., 2009
