Big Metal Rooster

Saturday, December 20, at the Bottleneck.

Big Metal Rooster bassist Derek Hein knows the secret to the universe. We know it, too, because he shared it with us down at the soda fountain over a chocolate malt. Actually, we read it in his online diary. And diary, in this context, means journal because diaries are for chicks and former professional baseball player Goose Gossage. Right, Derek? Anyway, the shitty little secret of the universe according to Hein: "Though [expletive] and mouse [expletive] are both forms of [expletive]; mouse [expletive] comes from a mouse, whereas [expletive] can come from just about anything with an anus." Well put, wise man, well put. Lucky for Hein's fellow band members Tom Fleming, Luke Henry, Matt Miner and Bill Wassung, Big Metal Rooster has music to fall back on. Otherwise, the eclectically influenced (ah, hell, just call it a jam band) quintet from Topeka would be up [expletive] creek instead of playing [expletive]-good, groovin' tunes.
