Ball and Chain
Gym suits for the art show, anyone?
FRI 5/21
For the latest group exhibition at the Cube at Beco (1922 Baltimore), the artists wanted to curate the show together while also contributing their own individual work. The result is The Chain Game. The gallery's curators allowed one artist to pick another artist, who then picked another ... you get it. Those selected through this process include Alexi High, Garrett Hayes, Casey Maddox and Shane Ogren. We wonder if the last artist on board felt sort of like he was in eighth-grade PE class again. "Man, Garrett, I mean thanks and all, but you really think Alexi is better than me at Capture the Flag -- I mean, sculpture?" The show opens today with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. and remains open until July 18. Call 816-582-8997.-- Annie Fischer
Fork Off
THU 5/20
Inspired by the Food Network hit Iron Chef, Kansas City's own chefs compete to find out who rules the kitchen with an Iron Fork starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Overland Park Convention Center (6000 College Boulevard). Ten area chefs get a box of pantry staples and one mystery ingredient. One hour later, judges dig in and let their taste buds decide on a winner. For $30, spectators may indulge themselves in samples from twenty local restaurants and beverage companies. Yeah, this kickass event is presented by the Pitch.
