This outpost of the successful Los Angeles-based pizzeria chain was a surprisingly smart addition to the more upscale restaurants on the Country Club Plaza. Why? It boasts a moderately priced and varied menu of salads, pizza and pasta that range from comfortingly bland to downright exotic. In other words, theres something for almost every taste: an uninspired traditional cheese pizza, a the sublime caramelized-pear-and-gorgonzola pizza, an unexpectedly tasty Peking Duck pie sprinkled with soy-glazed mushrooms and crispy wontons. The service can be hit or miss, but the kitchen is generally consistent and snappy. Even better, the generous portions make sharing a pleasure. — Charles Ferruzza
