Calling Filmmakers

Kansas City's two reigning film festivals — FilmFest KC and the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee — are joining forces in 2009. The resulting Kansas City FilmFest will combine the resources of both events into a hulking superfestival that showcases local, regional and international films. Think of the new fest as an extension of the shorts-dominated Jubilees of yore, with higher-profile guest speakers. Set for April 22-26, the new FilmFest will aim to more effectively connect local filmmakers with buyers and offer a bigger stage for their films. Traditional programs such as the Crosscut: Women Making Movies symposium, CinemaJAZZ and the Reel Spirit youth division will continue, with all entries juried by visiting filmmakers. The entry deadline of December 1 is fast approaching; participants can save a little by submitting their documentaries, animations, narratives and experimental pieces by November 15. See kcjubilee.org for advance ticket information and submission guidelines.
