I am a Veteran (Desert Storm) who served her country in Intelligence with major medical problems that the VA (Veteran's Administration) has refused to treat....they were even arrogant enough to put it in writing they wrote to me a couple of weeks ago! It's a shame that I proudly served my country for some six years and am looking at dieing of a very treatable condition. The civilian medical system isn't the only system failing Americans! As pointed out in the comments of another Pitch article, there are different perspectives to these issues:

There's also the very sticky bio-ethics angle to this story. Just because someone has a gene that will make them susceptible to a certain disease, doesn't guarantee that they will get that disease. Will the genetic test only add stress and worry if it is positive? Is the knowledge worth it anyway?
All these issues would make a better story than: Hey Michael Moore makes lot of money but he won't pay for this test.
Great job you did calling out a few publicists :-).
You need to be calling out the insurance company, Coventry Health Care Inc. and the Julie's employer, St. Joseph Medical Center. Michael Moore's website did: http://www.michaelmoore.com/wo...
You can email the CEO of St. Joseph Medical Center here: http://www.carondelethealth.or... (I did.)
To me, it looks like Michael Moore is making money exposing corruption. Sounds like something journalists should be doing. Do you have a problem with real journalists who make a lot of money exposing corrupt politicians and business executives?
Are you against capitalism or just against Michael Moore?

What's $6,000 to a guy who's made millions off this movie -- and the stories of people down on their luck? Michael Moore is a guy who's made his mark confronting people with questions, so I have no qualms about doing the same to him.

UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE! You are going to hold MM responsible for this when he has done a tremendous service to this country bringing the sins of the insurance whores to light? How dare you expect him to 'fix' the wrongs of the insurance companies. You should be pushing readers to get involved and lobby their congresspersons to push for national health care, NOT expect MM to jump in and take care of everyone's medical bill. I am disgusted by the Pitch for this nasty, unintelligent slam piece. As a matter of fact, I wonder who paid this reporter to push this. Maybe the Pitch should follow up with a little investigation into this reporter's outside interests. Everyone knows that the blogs are all being bombarded by PR people from the insurance companies with tons of misinformation. Cut and pasted 'talking points' that appear almost word for word from one blog about it to another. The popularity of this documentary has scared the crap out of them---they might not be able to fleece Americans too much longer! SHAME ON THE PITCH for this shameless trash piece.

So instead of encouraging your readers to lobby for health care reform, you expect Michael Moore to ride in on a white horse and cover the medical bills of everyone who is not getting the care they deserve? Did it occur to this 'reporter' that Michael Moore may have a busy schedule and can't drop everything to talk to a caller from a rag publication no one outside of KC has even heard of? Good grief, what an irresponsible hit piece!
This is just a shameless hit-piece. Do you really expect Michael Moore to personally give money to everyone that has been hurt by insurance companies? How is he supposed to verify the truth of those people asking him for money? Moore is raising awareness to a very important problem in our society. I hope he makes some money in the process. It is obvious to me that making money is not his primary goal. What is he supposed to live on if he donates all his money?
Were you paid by the health care lobby? Or are you just naive?
