Young restaurateurs Chelly and Ruben Campos started out with a cantina of the same name in Grandview but recently moved their business to this larger South Kansas City location. Its a brightly colored space where the Campos serve inexpensive but tasty Mexican-American cuisine in a casual, no-frills style. This is one of the few Mexican-American restaurants that offers two kinds of guacamole: the traditional, mashed-avocado variety and an oddball innovation called avocado dip and made with sour cream thats the same color as a 1974 Maytag dishwasher. Yes, you can order a frosty margarita or a mangotini (a martini made with mango-flavored liqueur) to sip along with your carne asada (grilled steak with sautéed onions and peppers) or the Louisiana-influenced Jambalaya la Everything, but most diners come in for the basic tacos, burritos and cold brew. — Charles Ferruzza
