Walking into Charlie's is comparable to being zapped back in time, specifically the kind of time found in the pages of a Charles Bukowski book. This tiny dive probably hasn't seen a makeover in at least 30 years. But Charlie's has experienced a bit of gentrification lately, becoming a popular destination for young musicians, artists and various scenesters. Fortunately, they haven't taken over the place -- the old-school regulars are still there, only now they have more than just the bartender to talk to. There's no beer on tap, but Charlie's has plenty of bottles, and the bartenders know how to pull.
