Convene for Green

For each of the past three years, urban environmental activist Richard Mabion and a team of like-minded people have given Kansas City, Kansas, an event that focuses on issues of the planet — how they affect our town and what folks can do to increase sustainability in their community. Through lectures, panel presentations and youth-oriented activities, this year's Breaking the Silence Conference, today and Saturday at Reardon Convention Center (520 Minnesota Avenue in KCK), explores the lessons to be learned from ecological disasters in 2010, such as the Gulf oil spill, and how buying food locally can help the environment and the economy.
