Cowboy Mouth

You know that old saying about how bumblebees were never designed to fly, but nobody told the bees that? Well, that's kind of how it is for the members of Cowboy Mouth — but instead of flying insects, they're four radio rockers who probably should've called it quits in the late '90s. But instead of taking the hint from long-gone alt-pop compatriots such as Toad the Wet Sprocket, the Mouth has soldiered on with near-constant touring and a respectable catalog of albums. (Voodoo Shoppe, released this year, received a smattering of critical praise.) Despite record sales that have been lagging since the Clinton administration, the New Orleans four-piece continues to draw big crowds to its exuberant, highly interactive live shows. What that says about the state of pop culture is entirely your call.
