David Byrne

Wednesday, September 15, at the Uptown Theater.

David Byrne's work with Talking Heads was all about control, paranoia and icy calm. In contrast, his solo career has been filled with colorful experiments, dizzying world beats and ... icy calm. Touring in support of Grown Backwards, which some are calling his most accessible post-Heads effort to date, Byrne is backed by a crack nine-piece band capable of moving from art-pop to Brazilian themes and classical music in the blink of an eye. And though the oddball bandleader's penchant for restrained weirdness can be off-putting to the uninitiated, Byrne's incendiary live show can still burn down the house.
