Today, the familial unit is flexible. Adopting friends as "relatives" is commonplace in 2008, and even more so for the folks who hang out at Tootsie's (1818 Main, 816-471-7704). Bringing everyone together is the first king of Kansas City gay pride, Buttwiser. Throw a curve in the midweek routine and celebrate family at Buttwiser's Bash Show. The cast of about 16 features the Kings of Kansas City, a traveling drag-king troupe and other gender-bending performers. There's no cover, but the performers appreciate tips. "We are here to entertain the audience, and we'll take suggestions from the crowd," says Logan Rider, a 35-year-old from Independence and one of the Kings. Come get amicable at Tootsie's. The show starts around 10:30 p.m., with $1.75 specials on well drinks and canned beer. "If you come in a stranger, you'll leave a friend," Rider says.
