Dog Food Cooking with the Food Dude

When: Sat., Aug. 27, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 2011
Price: $20
Based on a survey sample of dog owners, dogs are the most advanced life forms on the planet and also the cutest and most awesome. By contrast, store-brand dog food polls quite poorly among a demographic cohort of dogs. An overwhelming 99 percent of dogs indicate that they would rather eat your burrito than a bowl of Purina One. It's probably best to avoid feeding Buddy a sackful of Manny's takeout, but Rick Woodford, known as the Dog Food Dude, advocates cooking up your own dog food at home. The author of the forthcoming cookbook Feed Your Best Friend Better, Woodford suggests that animals enjoy improved health and longevity when they're fed home-cooked foods that include fresh vegetables and meat. From 10 a.m. to noon., Woodford teaches a class called Making Healthy Dog Food with the Dog Food Dude at the Whole Foods Cooking Studio (7401 West 91st Street, Overland Park, 913-652-9633). Attendees learn how to cook five recipes and receive samples to take home. The class costs $20. For more information or to make a reservation, see acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaid=222044.
