Drama Den

John Kolvenbach's intense and surprising fraternal comedy On an Average Day enjoys its Kansas City opening at the Living Room, the new Crossroads performance space at 1818 McGee that scored with its debut show, The Oil Boiler, a couple of weeks back. Kolvenbach's boozy tale of brothers named Bobby and Joe (not the Kennedys), having it out in the run-down home of their dead folks, has stirred acclaim from critics around the world. But what's getting us excited is the return of one of Kansas City's best actors: the commanding Rusty Sneary. The Living Room co-founder (with Shawnna Journagan) is officially back in town after several years and is ready to tear through the kind of black-humored shows in which he has often excelled. On an Average Day teams him up again with director Scott Cordes, who featured Sneary in an unforgettable Killer Joe five years back. As if that isn't enough, Matt Weiss — so memorable clowning in Valhalla and the Fishtank's L'Histoire d'Amour — joins the boys' club. The brawling starts at 8 p.m., and tickets run $15; see thelivingroomkc.com.
