Few theaters in the metro are as unpredictable as the Barn Players in Mission. One week there's an ambitious obscurity such as Nine,
and the next there's a surefire pop-goth hit like Jekyll & Hyde
. The spontaneity continues at 7:30 p.m. with 6 X 10
, a play festival of six 10-minute plays. "The festival was created to give local playwrights an opportunity to share their work," says Beate Pettigrew of the Barn Players' board. "Also, as you can imagine, writing in a 10-minute format forces the playwright to focus on one clean locale, to focus on character relationships and to avoid any cinematic handprints." Pettigrew promises that the works cover a wide spectrum: "from a different twist to the Adam and Eve story to talking someone out of jumping off an office building to a women's book-club meeting to dysfunctional family relationships." Kind of like the Barn Players. Sample the variety at 6219 Martway in Mission; for reservations, call 913-432-9100.
