The annual eye-popping festivities at Longview Lake Campground opened the night before Thanksgiving with Christmas songs carried by hundreds of voices and even more color exploding in the skies overhead. It was a grand kickoff, and Christmas in the Park is still far from over. More than 300,000 lights continue to twinkle, and some 175 animatronic characters including, of course, Santa Claus bend to and fro every night through New Years Eve. The drive-through seasonal tradition changes a little with each incarnation. This year, Jackson County Parks and Recreation and event partner KUDL 98.1 have added a 30-foot Ferris wheel. See it spin nightly, starting at 5:30 p.m. The park is open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To get there from Interstate 470, take the View High Drive exit, turn south toward Third Street and watch for the signs. Admission is free, though donations are accepted, with a portion benefiting various local charities.
Mondays-Thursdays, Sundays, 5:30-10 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 5:30-11 p.m. Starts: Nov. 25. Continues through Dec. 31, 2009
