Eisley

“Invasion” by Eisley, from Combinations (Reprise/WEA):

Eisley's background — buncha young, innocent-looking sibling popsters from small-town America — recalls the Osmonds or Hanson, but the group's enchanting music screams (OK, purrs) Sixpence None the Richer crossed with Coldplay. Romantic, dramatic and sometimes bittersweet, the Texas quintet manages to spin fantastical, Narnia-inspired yarns without coming off mawkish. It's hard not to be won over by the magical harmonies of Stacy and Sherri DuPree and the creative guitar playing of eldest member Chauntelle, a clear disciple of Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. Eisley continues to tour behind last year's excellent Combinations, and any new material may come from a more sorrowful place — Sherri and husband Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory) just called it quits after less than a year, and she's been writing about it.
