Electric Six

Monday, October 20, at the Hurricane.

Disco lives! Well, kind of. Detroit's Electric Six utilizes some roller-rink rhythms and leisure-suit lyrics, but it's really a bastard amalgam of Motor City DNA ranging from Motown and the MC5 to Kiss and the White Stripes. Mr. Jack White even lets his neighbors borrow his sugary yelping on "Danger! High Voltage!" Fun, if harmless, songs such as "Gay Bar" and "Dance Commander" get the dancing shoes going, even in Detroit. The Danish duo Junior Senior (pictured) is likewise a jolt of dance-funk-pop that aspires to booty shaking and little else. In that regard, Junior Senior is a bit like ABBA, only instead of four cherubic master-race crooners, they are a chubby gay man and a skinny straight dude. So, nothing like ABBA.
